Nadler's War Cry

The primary fissure at the state Democratic convention opened a bit wider this morning when Rep. Jerrold Nadler of Manhattan blasted the Iraq war (though didn't mention his colleague Hillary Clinton's controversial support for that war).

Calling the war "stupid and deceitful," he said, "Every reason we were given has been shown to be false. Weapons of mass destruction? Not there. Saddam Hussein working hand in glove with Al Qaeda? Not true. The more information that comes out, the more we see, these were not mistakes, but deliberate lies. Does Congress investigate this? Do we seem to get to the bottom of it? Not this Republican congress."

Again, no mention of Clinton's stance. She voted several years ago to give Pres. George W. Bush authority to invade Iraq, and has never backed down from that vote.

Clearly, this issue is dividing many Dems at the convention. At one point in Nadler's speech, delegates cheered and some began chanting "No more war" over and over. Again, we're waiting to see if Clinton addresses the topic in her remarks this morning.

Meanwhile, thorn-in-her-side Jonathan Tasini, who's challenging her for the Democratic nomination but acknowledges he's not going to win, says an anti-war resolution will be brought to the floor this afternoon.
