Remember September 12

On September 12th, 2006, there will be a primary to select the Democratic candidate for Senate in New York.
If you live in New York, or if you know someone in New York, pass this on.
There are actually issues. Issues! Imagine that.
On one side is Hillary Clinton, who loves George Bush for his charm and charisma. She voted for the war in Iraq and continues to support it. Beyond that, it's hard to know what she believes in. Check out her website and it's clear she's made a firm choice to avoid being clear about what she stands for. Except getting lots of money from big corporate contributors. Which she has done. Big money. Corporate interests. Professional fence straddling.
On the other side is a clear statement on a clear set of issues. Against the war. For universal health care. With a plan: extend the all ready working Medicare program. Real campaign finance reform. Paper trails for our votes. For workers, for unions, for peoples rights, even on the job. For a universal pension system to replace the company by company system that is currently collapsing.
The candidate running on the issues is Jonathan Tasini. His website is Tasinifornewyork.org. You can examine the details there.
On one side, politics as usual: no matter what you do, money wins.
On the other side, new politics: vote on the issues, communicate through email and the net, turn out, pull the lever (we still have levers in New York), prove that you care, demonstrate that you actually want to change the world.
Even if Tasini doesn't win, a big enough turnout for his non-funded campaign will prove that people care about issues and want a Democrat who will stand on the issues and will embolden Democrats -- lord knows they need it -- to stand on the issues.
Remember September 12th. The one coming up. Mark it on your calendar. If you live in New York: Vote! If you live outside New York, think of everyone you know in New York, and remind them to vote!
September 12th, 2006, the day to vote on issues!
